Hello all,
Please join us on Thursday, October 20th at 9am to learn more about the Vermont Flood Resilient Communities Fund (FRCF) program! We’ll have special guest Stephanie Smith, the Vermont State Hazard Mitigation Officer join us to answer questions and provide a general overview of this relatively new program.
This is the fifth in a series of drop in events to discuss floodplain management topics, and to talk about what’s on your mind. These are informal gatherings on the third Thursday of the month at 9 am hosted by VTDEC’s River Corridor & Floodplain Management Program. No registration is required. Come on by!
This month, we will be discussing the new Flood Resilient Communities Fund (FRCF). This program is a State of Vermont program administered by Vermont Emergency Management (VEM). It was established in 2021 with the intent of improving landscape and community resilience, and reducing the future public safety and water quality impacts of climate-related flood hazards in Vermont, focusing on buyouts of flood-vulnerable properties. Because this is a Vermont program, applicants can apply for up to 100% of project costs, and allows the program to consider more broad in its consideration of the types of flood mitigation and resilience projects that can be funded. Example projects include home buyouts, vacant lot purchases, restoring natural floodplain access to improve floodplain function, dam removal projects that have the benefit of reducing flood risk, natural infrastructure and nature-based solutions for flood storage or improved floodplain and river functions, green infrastructure, and low-impact development to manage stormwater and reduce future flooding. You can learn more about the program and see the types of projects that have been funded by visiting https://vem.vermont.gov/flood-resilient-communities-fund.
The next upcoming application deadline for FRCF is Friday, October 28th, 2022. There will be a subsequent application deadline on Friday, March 31st, 2023.

If you have questions about the event, or using Teams, feel free to reach out to Rebecca.Pfeiffer@vermont.gov
Future invitations to the Drop In Discussions will be posted to the Flood Resilience Listserv and also as News on www.floodready.vt.gov
We hope to see you there!
