Lamoille River Watershed - March Discovery Meetings for FEMA Flood Map Updates

Updated flood hazard mapping is underway in the Lamoille River Watershed.

Community offiicials have been asked to contribute information regarding flood risk and mapping priorities.

Two Discovery Meetings have been scheduled for community offiicals at the end of March:

  • Tuesday March 26, 2019 6 PM – 8 PM
Johnson Town Hall, 293 Lower Main Street West, Johnson, VT

  • Wednesday March 27, 2019 10 AM – 12 PM
Village of Hardwick Memorial Room, 20 Church Street, Hardwick, VT

The meetings will give communities in the study area the opportunity to provide data and input on areas of flooding concern within their community.

FEMA contractors with Compass are asking that communities provide feedback and supportive data within a month after the Discovery Meetings so FEMA can finalize the Discovery Report.

This report will include information on existing conditions within the watershed, as well as identification of priority areas for potential further study by FEMA.

The final Discovery Report will be provided to all communities within the watershed.

This effort will ultimately update the Flood Insurance Study and Flood Insurance Rate Maps for the communities within the watershed, which are the basis of your adopted flood hazard regulations and flood insurance requirements and risk rating.  In addition, the Risk MAP effort will provide related tools to facilitate flood hazard mitigation planning and communication of flood risk.

If you have any questions you can reach the Project Manager for this watershed study, Lauren Klonsky, at 617-452-6361.

Thanks in advance for your support and we look forward to working with your community on this study.
