Registration is now open for the
2015 Town Officers Education Conferences

Registration is open for the 70th Annual Town Officers' Education Conferences, sponsored by UVM Extension and the Vt. Institute for Government with assistance from a number of partner organizations.

The 2015 sessions will be held on the following dates:

January 22, 2015
Flood Ready Vermont has data and tools and models for community planners.
Flood resilience is one of the elements that is required in municipal and regional plans in Vermont.

Greenfield, MA— The Connecticut River Watershed Council (CRWC) and the State of Vermont have released six new videos to help communities prepare for flooding. Experts speak about and highlight examples of why rivers move and erode in the first place, how to build better culverts and stream crossings, how to stabilize streambanks more naturally, and how to use mitigation funding.

The easiest way to access the data is the Flood Ready Atlas 
Use Flood Ready Tools to "Zoom to Town" and then "Toggle River Corridors On"

Middlebury, VT - The High Meadows Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) that represents a commitment of $240,000 towards promoting planning and action within Vermont’s watersheds. Tropical Storm Irene brought the devastation of extreme weather to the forefront in Vermont, but many Vermonters don’t know that since 2000 the state has had at least one federally-declared disaster every year.

Vermont Watershed Grants up to $15,000, depending on project category type:

             - Education and outreach – up to $7,500

             - Planning, assessment, inventory, monitoring – up to $5,000

             - On-the-ground implementation – up to $15,000

Application deadline is Friday, November 21, 2014.

Register by November 14 with Ray Doherty, DEMHS, to attend the two day FEMA Training G318: Preparing and Reviewing Local Hazard Mitigation Plans.  The training will be held at the Vermont Emergency Operations Center in Waterbury.  No charge. Lunch provided. Credits available for Certified Floodplain Managers.
