FEMA has posted the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announcements for the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) grant programs on www.grants.gov. These NOFOs provide an overview of the grant programs and details about the agency's funding priorities and review process.
The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (VTANR) will be hosting a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam on 6/23/2017. The exam will be held from 1-4pm in Montpelier, VT at the VTANR main office at 1 National Life Drive. Waterbury Village along the Winooski River now has an innovative on-line tool to visualize the extent of flooding. The Waterbury information is part of the Flood Inundation Mapper.
Two-Rivers Ottauquechee Regional Commission (TRORC) has released a dynamic map showing work around Vermont to acquire homes and other buildings in the high risk Special Flood Hazard Area to reduce damage from flooding or respond to substantial damage.
This map, composed by Pete Fellows, TRORC GIS Manager and Planner, uses fusion tables to provide updated information on the status of this effort.
Since 2011 most communities across Vermont have taken important steps to become more flood resilient. Over a quarter of Vermont communities have protected river corridors or floodplains from further losses. Over half have Local Hazard Mitigation Plans adopted or in process (up from 35% in 2014), and 80% have Emergency Operations Plans in place (up from 36% in 2014).
